We are five journalists from University College Falmouth who have set up this blog to investigate the effects that digital technology is having on efforts to defend and improve press and broadcasting freedom worldwide.
We will be looking at how technology is acting as an agent of change which allows wider audiences to access news and information. New information platforms now provides the media, and individuals with a voice which may once have been supressed in the global arena, however, there are instances where press freedom is limited by both regulatory, ethical and political challenges, which can alter the way in which people and places are represented to a global audience.
Please feel free to make comment. We have chosen the title Fair Comment as it emphasises the right of the press to free opinion, based upon truth, without penalty. Such press freedoms are however, still restricted or heavily state-regulated in many areas of the world.
Please explore the blogroll and links through our pages. If there’s anything we’ve missed, please let us know.
